Sunday Serenity : Sleeping Porches

When I think of Sunday's I think of rest, relaxation, peace and family.

I am going to be adding in Sunday posts to my blog focusing on those things that will help keep balance and focus.  Whether it be something visual or an insightful thought it will definitely be something to create more beauty in our lives.

Red Eggs Wreath

Happy Good Friday!

I love this time of year!  It's a time to celebrate newness and life.

I saw this craft via Martha Stewart and I fell in love.

The rich red is stunning!

Here is the how to...

Dyeing brown chicken eggs (instead of white ones) creates a deep, intense shade of red.

Tools and Materials

1 dozen brown eggs
2 dozen quail eggs
Craft knife
1 paper clip, straightened
Rubber ear syringe (available at drugstores)
Heatproof bowl
White vinegar
Red food coloring
Olive oil
Grape-wood wreath
Hot-glue gun
  1. Empty the raw eggs: Pierce the top and bottom of each with the craft knife, turning the knife in one hole to widen it slightly. Poke the paper clip through one hole; stir to break up the yolk. Hold the egg over a bowl, with the larger hole facing down, and blow the contents out with the syringe.
  2. In the heatproof bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of vinegar with 20 drops of food coloring for every cup of hot tap water. Submerge the egg for at least 10 minutes. (To dye many eggs at once, put them in the bowl and weigh them down by nesting an empty bowl inside of the heatproof one.)
  3. Remove the eggs from the dye; let dry on a drying rack. Pour a little olive oil onto a paper towel and rub the eggs to create a slight sheen.
  4. With the glue gun, attach the eggs to the wreath. Let dry before hanging.

Coastal Design

Good Afternoon!

I am an East Coast girl and I can't tell you how much I miss the ocean and the sand underneath my feet.

I used to go to the shore all the time.  There is nothing like it.

I find coastal design to be very peaceful and even though I can't have the ocean on a daily basis at least interior wise I can have elements of it in my home.

Some pics that are inspiring me right now.

Love the straw hats against the white paneled walls.  They add such a carefree natural element to the staircase.

The driftwood beams and shelving is gorgeous.

Of course you have to add in one of my favorite colors, blue.  Bringing the serenity of the ocean indoors.

Bunk room for kids.  Nautical themed without going overboard..no pun intended.. lol.

The simplicity of this space is very relaxing.  The sheer white drapes, the natural wood elements, and the rug the makes me think of sand is stunning and brings harmony.
I have brought sheers into my home too.  I love the way the space breathes now.
What do you think about coastal living?  Is this a style you would incorporate into your home?

Sneak Peek

Good Morning!

I am still on my painting project in my living room/ dining room area.  I am looking forward to when it's done.  It is taking me so long with a three kids, homeschooling, business, and all my other responsibilities that I have to squeeze painting in small increments.

The one thing I love is how it brings instant transformation to a space.

It satisfies the crave without having to spend a fortune.

This wall isn't completely done yet.  I still have to finish the second coat of trim today (I will be so happy!)  Tomorrow start working on next wall.  Can't wait to show you the finished product.

How's your Monday going?  Any spring projects on your list?

In Honor Of Spring's Arrival

Good Afternoon!

I am so happy spring has officially arrived but I am waiting for the weather to catch up :)

I am ready for the vibrant color of spring and the fresh scent

Can't you just smell it?

Reminds me of the beautiful wedding in Twilight.  Yes, I do love the movies.

Are you anxious to see the flowers and hear the birds?  I know I am : )

Spray Jewelry

Good Afternoon!

My sweet daughter, who I might add is the most giving person I know, two years ago took me into Charming Charlie's and bought me a ring.

(this is her a long time ago)

It meant so much to me that she would do this but as time went on the ring began to fade

I love this ring so I wanted to keep it and not throw it away..
So, I decided to spray paint it.

I covered up the gem with painter's tape but I should have done it with packing tape instead.

Spray it on

Here it is.  I just need to touch up around the rim where the faux diamond is but it's as good as new.

My daughter and I are both happy.

BTW..
We are getting more snow here today.  I believe the groundhog played a trick on us this year.  Is it warm where you're at?

St. Patrick's Day Inspiration

Good Evening!

St. Patty's Day is right around the corner and I am excited because I have found out that I have a little Irish in my background too :)

Let's celebrate..

Love the uniqueness of the clover chair.

Great IPhone case from

Or perhaps putting on some vibrant green eye shadow or if you're daring dying your hair a brilliant red.

Something fun to try..
Here's a simple recipe for green beer.

Have a wonderful St. Patrick's weekend :)
