You Know You Love A Good Tour

Good Morning!

I don't know about you but I love home tours.  When I have the opportunity I will go to open houses just for enjoyment and to get inspiration as well.

Here is a home tour that just blew my mind.  I am an avid lover of midcentury design and this home just made that permanent.   Now if I could only move someplace warm :)

Enjoy the tour.

Btw..
This is what I get to look at today

Stay safe and warm!

Tapestry Trend

Good Morning!

I love when things get reimagined.  I used to have a Tapestry jacket and oh, how I wish I had kept it!

The bright intricate colors and patterns are simply gorgeous!

How can we bring this into our homes?

Large tapestry wall..

or tapestry taxidermy

or as your area rug?

How are you feeling about this trend?

Would it be something you would incorporate in your space?

A New But Familiar Shop

Good Evening!

Today was a pretty awesome day..
I am so happy that our town got a brand new store and I know most of you know who she is..

Love her sense of style and the unique pieces she creates.

The shop immediately drew me in.  I felt right at home.  There is something about aged materials that says you can just be yourself .. relax.

Needing character in your home...this is definitely the place to shop.

 Dying over that sign!

A touch of whimsy..

So many goodies that I wanted to buy..
but I did come home with 2 things.
This gorgeous piece..

Will be repurposed into something awesome in the near future : )
and
this hook will hang some pretty plants in my kitchen.

Thank you, Urban Farmgirl!  You just made our town a whole lot cooler : )

Are You Too Scared To Try?

Good Afternoon!

Such a gorgeous fall day here and to see all the colors of nature is just breathtaking.   Nature is not afraid to blend colors and patterns and neither should we.

I have a simple solution for you about mixing fabrics..

You can find an underlying theme throughout each of the fabrics, for ex. it's that tan/gold color in each.  Then you can find fabrics that you love to coordinate with that.
1.  I found the solid color..neutral and would go with everything.

2.  Then I fell in love with the paisley fabric and I added in two other colors (white and grey)

3.  The last fabric caught my eye..loved the fun print by Jonathon Adler by Kravet.  Now even though the greys are not exact and the gold-ish tan doesn't do an exact copy it's still in the same family.  It works.

In a room they would have different uses but it all goes together.

Check this out..

Using the same steps as above is how these fabrics came together.  I love the gradual incline to bolder prints.  A statement for sure in a space .. stunning.

I sure hope this has helped you to take more risks.

Hope your day is full of adventure : )

BTW..
So excited for Chamber of Commerce dinner showcasing the remodel of the Byron Forest Preserve.  I am so proud of how my design has turned out.  I promise to take lots of pics.

What I am Crushing On Right Now

Good Afternoon!
I was out the other day at an antiques mall and I saw these..

When I saw them..my heart began to sing as if I were in a musical from a long time ago.  This has started my obsession with black, white, and gold.

I love the elegance and the boldness.

I do have other rooms in my house that are not done..hmmm.

What About This As A Backsplash?

Good Morning!

I am always thinking about the next project at my house.  What's been on my mind is thinking through all the design pieces I want in my kitchen.

I know that I still want carrera marble as the majority of my backsplash.  I began thinking, being the natural light junkie that I am, that I would add a mirrored backsplash (small quantity) opposite of the window in my kitchen.  It would expand the space ( I have a galley style) ,  will bounce more natural light, and I still get a view of the outside while I am cooking.

Here are some kitchens that are inspiring me..

I love the aged look!

It's really like adding an extra window in the space.

I am dreaming..
I wish I could just do that today.  This idea will plague me until I make it a reality..lol

What do you think?  Would you put this in your home instead of granite or a subway tile backsplash?

BTW..
Will have pics on Monday of the pelmuts up in my kitchen : )
Had a wonderful time with my husband's family from Newfoundland.  It was great- hadn't seen them in 6yrs.  I know it's crazy!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend : )

Boy's Room

Good Morning!

How are you enjoying this Monday?

I am excited because this week the pre-bid meeting for the contractors will be happening on a commercial design job I will be doing.  More on that later : )

With our busy schedule and coming up with design solutions for our wonderful clients I can't forget about our house and the tlc that it needs : )

In an earlier post you can see the before pictures of my son's room.  It was important for me to have his input..after all it's his room and he needs to be happy.  Now I will say..I still need to get his bedding.  Those blankets are just there for the time being.
The carpet I won from Shadow Mountain from a giveaway on Facebook.  They were just at High Point Spring Market.

My son told me he loved blue and that's what he got : )

He likes to spend time outside with Daddy doing rugged activities so the lantern was a must and it makes for a great night light.

Captain America is his favorite.  The painting with the red and orange he created and wanted it hung in his room.  The picture above is a painting from Newfoundland where my husband is from.

Another love of his..dogs.

Football is another big thing .. quality time we all spend together.  Chicago Bears,  have to support the home team and ..

the Philadelphia Eagles from where I grew up : )
the little train my daughter made for him.

Now onto prepping my laundry room for paint.

Hope your week is full of beauty : )

Yep..It's Not Pretty

Good Morning!

My house is still a work in progress ( as I believe that statement applies to mostly everyone : )

I have been tackling my son's bedroom.
Here is the tragic before pictures..

This is when we first moved in..yes, it's a hot mess!

What this room had going for it was the big windows and it already had hardwood floors.
The bad thing is the room is tiny.

Cleaned up his room a little bit.. it feels like a lodge prison..yuck.  Will be working on it and making it more into a room that a little boy wants to be in : )

The question is how to gather inspiration that would make this room him and not be just a nice generic bedroom..

I need to really listen to him and bring him along this process..

Have a wonderful and profitable week : )

I Refuse To Believe..

How are you all today?

I read in an article that they are saying books are a thing of the past.  That electronic books are the "in" thing.
I personally believe that there is nothing like feeling the pages of a book.  There is a place where electronic books have their place..

But there is no beauty in the electronic book.. like real books that make you want to touch and explore in a space..

What do you think?
