Make Your Mouth Water

Sometimes I have to get in touch with my Puerto Rican roots and make this recipe.  My family loves it and I get my girls involved with the process.  If you like pork I promise you after you try this you will love it!
Now I need to let you know that it's a bit time consuming but so worth it!  Try this for a Sunday dinner and impress your relatives with your chef skills!

Pernil de Cerdo al Horno
(Roasted Pork Shoulder)

Ingredients:
10 garlic cloves ( I love garlic)
8 black peppercorns
2 tsp dried oregano
2 tbs canola oil
2 tbs cider vinegar
1 6-pound pork shoulder

Instructions:
Combine the first 6 ingredients in a mortar and crush.  Rub the meat well with this "adobo".

Let the meat rest overnight.  All those spices will settle all the way through the meat.

Next day preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Bake the pork shoulder in a roasting pan for 3 a 3.5 hrs.  I usually turn the meat every 30- 40 min to crisp on all sides.  Use meat thermometer to get to desired temp.  It should look like this when you're done..

Enjoy!!

Not The Reveal But Pretty Close..

Good Morning!

On my last blog post  I was saying how my husband said one of my favorite things.  We picked up some goodies..
I had some people guess and say it could be a shelf we were making..
This has been on my list for at least 2yrs.
All I can say is Thank God for a man who is handy.
He cranked these out in a couple hours..and this is what we were up to : )
We are making cornices for my laundry room..
(Yes, I still have to scrape the windows.  Don't pay that any mind..haha)
 breakfast nook

 and kitchen

I cleverly cropped out the mess in my kitchen. LOL
The result of being busy but I am not complaining : )
Here is what they look like from the back end.
My husband did them his way but here are great directions from the DIY Network .

I am not finished.  I have to wrap them yet but a huge step forward : )

BTW..
I am very excited to be working on a logo and branding for Modern Earth Design.  I have been working with the amazing Sara Axelson, who is a guru in this area.  I can't wait to show everyone when completed.

Have a wonderful weekend : )

How Do I Start?

Good Morning!

Everyone looking forward to Memorial Day Weekend?
I know I am : )
I always look forward to those little breaks and get some time to refuel.

Right now I am in the middle of some projects..some for others and for our home as well.
I have had some people ask me how do I come up with a plan for a space?

I know it might be different for some but for me..I go for what inspires me at the moment.

For example

We were at the mall and my daughter saw this picture.  When I saw it I knew we had to have it and that it belonged in our living room. It really spoke to me. This would be the starting point for the direction of the room and for the rest of the house.

I took this inspiration and the rest of the elements came.

First step..find something that inspires you.  Find something that you absolutely love.

Another example..
I saw these pictures online

(unknown)
This was a starting off point for my kitchen.

All we have done so far is paint the walls gray and the trim is bright white.
Next will be either to get new appliances or to add the carrera marble.

If you don't know what direction to take a room in..start looking around at what you love.  Now you have that first building block to start to make a room into what you dream of.
You can do it : )

Wishing you all a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
