They Are Finally Up

 Good Morning!

It's been awhile and I have missed the blog and all of you : )

Corey and I finally got the pelmuts up but I must tell you it was hard work getting them secure.  He built them to last forever.  If you want to read more about it go here.
We are getting the anchors put in the wall to hold them up because it was a little heavy.

 (anchors)
You also have to use L-Brackets to mount them up on the wall.

After all the hard work..here they are up in my kitchen

I am so happy with them.  It really was a family project and we had a great time doing it.

What are your favorite window treatments?

BTW..
Tile is being laid in the Byron job.  Paint has gone on the walls and the space has so much more life.  It is so exciting : )

Pelmut (Cornice) Wrapping

Good Morning!

Hope everyone is enjoying that this is Friday.  I believe just that thought brings immediate relaxation.. don't you?

If you remember in previous posts (here and here) my husband and I were making pelmuts or cornices (another word for them).  Now we begin the process of wrapping.

In this pic we are wrapping it with batting so it has a more plush look.
We were trying to get these done before a visit from our family.

Here is my daughter cutting the batting to fit the pelmut.

Then we took it outside and adhered the batting with a spray adhesive. It's really sticky so where rubber gloves.

We took the fabric, cut it, and began stapling all around.

My daughter making sure all staples are all the way in.  She is Mommy's helper : )

There is one completely done..2 more to go.

Do you have any projects that you are currently working on?  Would love to hear about it.

BTW..
The Byron Forest Preserve remodel has begun.  This is exciting.  I will have pics to show you for Monday : )

One more thing..we haven't had rain here in forever and right now I hear the sound of thunder and rain hitting my skylights..such a wonderful sound : )

Not The Reveal But Pretty Close..

Good Morning!

On my last blog post  I was saying how my husband said one of my favorite things.  We picked up some goodies..
I had some people guess and say it could be a shelf we were making..
This has been on my list for at least 2yrs.
All I can say is Thank God for a man who is handy.
He cranked these out in a couple hours..and this is what we were up to : )
We are making cornices for my laundry room..
(Yes, I still have to scrape the windows.  Don't pay that any mind..haha)
 breakfast nook

 and kitchen

I cleverly cropped out the mess in my kitchen. LOL
The result of being busy but I am not complaining : )
Here is what they look like from the back end.
My husband did them his way but here are great directions from the DIY Network .

I am not finished.  I have to wrap them yet but a huge step forward : )

BTW..
I am very excited to be working on a logo and branding for Modern Earth Design.  I have been working with the amazing Sara Axelson, who is a guru in this area.  I can't wait to show everyone when completed.

Have a wonderful weekend : )

How To Make It Cohesive?

Good Morning!!

How was your Memorial Day?

We had such a good time at the lake..
Yep, I look a little crazy here but the wind was blowing hard..haha.

Now that I am back to reality I am painting again.

I recently wrote about how I start the process of building a room.  You can read more about that here.
Now the question is .. How do you bring two rooms together in a  cohesive manner?

I do it by having the rooms call to each other.  There are colors in each room that you will find in another room of my house in some form (especially the common areas).

In this picture of my living room you can see the gray and browns in the pillows.  All neutral, warm colors.

My kitchen..

I brought the gray into my kitchen which has a doorway that you can see into my dining and living room space.

The kitchen also leads into my laundry room.  Don't you just love the floral border and the little curtain? (sarcasm)

I want the space to feel continuous and not choppy.  So I decided to paint the room the same gray as the kitchen (which I am still working on) and I picked up this fabric for $3.50 a yard..

My husband and I are going to make a cornice for the windows in my kitchen and my laundry room with this fabric.

I have also begun painting my cabinetry in the laundry room..

The back wall is painted gray and as you can tell I am far from finished.  I try to do it in between all my other responsibilities.  It is coming together and I always love seeing progress.

As you can see, all the rooms speak to one another in the same language but done in slightly different ways.

Hope you have a wonderful week : )
