DIY Christmas Wreath

Good Morning!

Every Christmas the kids and I add a new craft to our decor.

For ex.  we did this one a couple years ago.
Made of Marshmallows..which now hangs in my kitchen.  It looks the same as it did when we made it.  You can find out more about this wreath here

This year I kinda did more than our usual one craft.  I want to share with you one we have completely finished and was inspired by the famous Canadian designer, Sarah Richardson of HGTV.

Here is what you will need..

Boa feathers..I got mine at Hobby Lobby.  I absolutely LOVE that store.  They were $7.99 and you need two of them for one wreath.  I made two wreaths.

Galvanized Steel Wire..I already had from a previous project.  Ace Hardware $3.19

I wanted to add battery operated lights and purchased these from WalMart at $7.98 each and I needed two packages for the two wreaths.

Of course, a foam wreath.  Hobby Lobby at $4.99 (I bought 2)

The first thing I did was to secure the battery pack to the back of the wreath

No one will ever see the mess : )

I then wrapped the lights all the way around and tucked the end into the wire.

Did the same for the boa..

I then hung them on my windows with these..

Suction cups with hooks..you can purchase these at Home Depot for a couple dollars.

And here is the final product..

Now, I don't have a pic with the lights on because my camera just wasn't doing it justice.

What projects are you creating for the Holidays?

Tablescapes For Thanksgiving

Good Morning!

I have been seeing a lot about decorating your fireplace mantle for fall but not a whole lot about tablescapes.  So, since Thanksgiving is just around the corner here are some inspirations that you can take and use in your own home.

(Haleh Design)
Candles a must and fall vegetables for the blessings we have all had this past year.

Vibrant colors and florals

Love the bluish steel colored pumpkins and gourds on this table.  You can also see the long candlesticks in the small white pumpkins.

This is probably my favorite from Centsational Girl
I am hosting a breakfast at my house and I think I just might have to make these poms.  So lovely.

I hope this gives you all some great ideas for your table decor, I know it did for me : )

BTW...
Working on my fireplace in my living room now.  Trying to get it done before this party.  It will be beautiful when all complete : )

Some Changes..

Good Afternoon!

I have been working with the amazing SARA!  Yes, she rocks and is an absolute genius at what she does.  I gave her the task of coming up with a logo for Modern Earth Design.  I think she did a brilliant job... so

TaDa..

I will soon have my page cleaned up and the header changed.  It's a wonderful feeling to see what was once just a dream begin to become reality.

If you need someone to help you with a logo design and branding let me know : )

Hope you all have a great day!!

BTW...

I am on Jane.Tv .  All you have to do is go to the DIY section and scroll down and you will see some of my content on there.  This is so exciting.  While you are there check out the rest of the site..so much good information and shows to watch.

Pelmut (Cornice) Wrapping

Good Morning!

Hope everyone is enjoying that this is Friday.  I believe just that thought brings immediate relaxation.. don't you?

If you remember in previous posts (here and here) my husband and I were making pelmuts or cornices (another word for them).  Now we begin the process of wrapping.

In this pic we are wrapping it with batting so it has a more plush look.
We were trying to get these done before a visit from our family.

Here is my daughter cutting the batting to fit the pelmut.

Then we took it outside and adhered the batting with a spray adhesive. It's really sticky so where rubber gloves.

We took the fabric, cut it, and began stapling all around.

My daughter making sure all staples are all the way in.  She is Mommy's helper : )

There is one completely done..2 more to go.

Do you have any projects that you are currently working on?  Would love to hear about it.

BTW..
The Byron Forest Preserve remodel has begun.  This is exciting.  I will have pics to show you for Monday : )

One more thing..we haven't had rain here in forever and right now I hear the sound of thunder and rain hitting my skylights..such a wonderful sound : )

I Love It When My Man Says...

 Good Morning!

I love it when my husband says.."Let's got to the hardware store."
Ok, ok, I am strange but that comment means we are about to take on one of the projects that I have had in my design notebook (for our home).
And, for this girl, that leads straight to my heart : )

Last night we headed out to Home Depot and with coffee in tow we are ready to make this happen..

All the parts we need..

Do you have an idea what we are making?
I will hopefully have the reveal here by this weekend..hopefully : )

The Big Reveal : My DIY Garden Chandelier

Happy Friday!

If you remember how I took a trip to an awesome store here in town and I was inspired to create something a little unique.

I didn't walk away with much that day.
This project has been in my mind for 2yrs .. so..I hope you like it as much as we do : )

We started off with this..
I bought the hanging planter for $1.98 had to change out the hanger though because they told me that wasn't for sale..darn. I bought a chain hanger for $4 instead.

Spanish Moss.  Perfect for me because it can handle dry spells and you can put it on anything .. no soil : )
Looks a lot like spaghetti.  I bought 4 bunches of these to cover the planter well.

You will also need galvanized steel wire.  I had this laying around the house from a previous project.

I took the wire and began to wrap the base in a dream catcher fashion leaving enough space to get the spanish moss through.
Just keep going round and round with it.  I did that so I could have a base for a candle plate and a candle.  Side Note..Please use battery operated ones in case of fire.

I did not use any wire for the spanish moss...simply loop them through.
(top rung)

 (bottom rung)

Here is what it looked like with spanish moss complete..
I thought it needed more.  So back to the store I go and purchase faux forsythia.

I thought about cutting them and adding them in for some color..
(a little cardinal for something unexpected)

Some evening shots..

 In Nature..

What do you think?

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and Happy Father's Day : )

DIY : Making A Side Table

Hope your Holiday's were wonderful!  It's been a very relaxing time for us.
We were invited to a lovely dinner with some new friends at their house.

Betsy was an interior decorator in Upstate New York.  They moved into the home her husband grew up in and they have shown it some love.
Love this room.  So very cozy.

Look at the treasure I found : )

Hanging out...my husband playing guitar with one of their kids.

I get so inspired by DIY projects that are showcased in blogs like Design Sponge that I did one for my husband.

I bought a breakfast tray at a local store and decided to make it into a table for my husband's office.

I bought the legs which had to be the right side table length.

I purchased the top plate which came with the screws.  However, the screws were too long and I didn't want them to come through to the other side.

The wonderful man at Ace Hardware found me screws that were half the size in length.

Attaching leg number one.

Here is the result with the legs not stained.

My husband and I decided to stain it the same color as the lamp you see in the above picture.

Final result..

Here it is in his office..
The chair I refinished with the table and a vintage lamp.  I am just beginning.  I have many more projects in the future for this space.
Have a great week all : )
