Dining Room Reveal

Good Afternoon!

I am so happy that I have finished giving our dining room a fresh update.
You can see what it looked like before here

Changed the placement of the mirror and the space feels so much bigger.  Paint colors add to the space being able to breathe.

The art is actually vintage tv trays.  I love the pattern and how it adds life (I don't have a green thumb at all)

These chairs I got for $10.  LOVE!  The fur is from Ikea.

A Mexican blanket on table makes it feel inviting like you're on a picnic.

Changed curtains to simple and white.

And our view to outside.

Little changes can make a big difference.

What updates are you doing?  What changes have you done in your home to welcome in the summer season?

What About This For Your Ceiling?

Good Morning!

I am in love with mirrored ceilings right now.

Several years ago I went to an open house (home for sale) and when I walked into the master bedroom..the whole ceiling was mirrored and the walls.  It gave me the creeps and needless to say that house is still on the market.

That's not what I am talking about.  You can have mirrored ceilings but it be done tastefully..just don't do it in the bedroom..ahem.

I love the antique mirrored ceiling in this dining room.  If I had an enclosed one I would so be doing this.  It raises the ceiling height and reflects more light into the space.  I also love the use of the navy (blue is the new black) and the crispness of the white adds such class.

For those who like rustic and raw..the beamed ceiling with the mirrors simply gorgeous.  Could totally see this at a beach house.

If putting in a full installation is a little overwhelming for you..what about a sunburst mirror centered in the room?  I think it would add so much character.  This I definitely can do.  : )

BTW..
I am so excited..I am going to be getting my hair done.  It has been such a long process in finding the right hairstylist after the one I went to for years left to move to Miami.  I have been in search for at least the last 5yrs.  I believe I found my replacement.

Vintage Score

Good Morning!

I went out recently with friend/client to look for a credenza for her space.  We found what she wanted at the first store we went to but I was looking for something also.  I wanted to replace my art over my bar area..
It just wasn't doing anything for me anymore.

So, I took her to this shop that has so many amazing vintage finds.  I always go way to the back because that's usually where the good stuff is and where most people don't go look.  And I found what I was looking for.

Here is my new art..

I love it even more after I saw this..

This is $379
and I got mine for $20.  Can I say score!

Hope your weekend is full of good deals : )

Can It Be : Dining Room ( Finished)

Good Morning!

The dining room is complete.. well, almost.
Here is a recap from where we came from..

My husband put down Hickory flooring and painted walls

put dining table in space

And here we are now...
The tablescape..very simple.
1. The pumpkins I bought from Hobby Lobby for $1
2.  The table runner is from Crate and Barrel Outlet for $15
3.  I use the wine bottles on the table to hold candles

The mirror we already had.

The bar we bought from Ikea about 7yrs ago.

The owl is from Hobby Lobby that I bought for $5 and it's on a piece of birch that came from my tree in the backyard.

Here is our view to our backyard.  The curtains are from Ikea.

It's good to see a room go from an empty space to a functioning one. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Have a great week all : )

Can It Be? : Dining Room (The Placement)

It is Monday and I know that everyone on the east coast is so thankful that this weekend has passed.  I am grateful because my sister, her husband, and our parents were in the path of the storm and they made it out unscathed.  The people in their surrounding neighborhoods not so much.  So, thanking God for their safety but still praying for everyone else who has been touched tragically by this.

I wanted to continue with our dining room.  If you remember we put down hickory flooring and extended it from the family room into our dining space.
(family room area)

(dining area)

You can read more about it here and see the before dining room placement that I was trying out.
Needless to say the way I had my dining room furniture placed..we all didn't care for it so much.

So, I put it this way..

We are liking it this way so much better.

Here is the view from a different direction.

There is still more to do.. curtains and accessories.  Wish me luck ; )

Can It Be? : Dining Room

Hello everyone!  I hope your week has been a good one.  We have been busy here chopping up the tree in the backyard that fell and stacking it for this winter.  Two of my kids were sick so I had my other daughter help me stack wood and did we get a workout.  : )

I wanted to continue on our "Can It Be" series.  Just in case you are new here this series is all about what seemed to be rooms with no potential and if they can be beautiful again.  My husband and I bought a 1950's home that was a fixer upper and we are putting some love back into it.  Is it a tedious process?  Yes!  But anything that's worth something means you have to put your time into it to see it blossom.

Do you remember how we put hickory flooring in our family room?

There's my awesome husband!  He did it all himself..what a man : )

We ended up doing the same thing for our dining room.  It just made the spaces between the rooms flow instead of it being choppy.

We used Behr paint and a venetian plaster for the chocolate walls.  We wanted a cozy feel to the room.  I love the fact that you can separate the dining room off from the family room space for sound control but still keep an eye on the kids through the french doors.

When we bought this home we only had enough furniture for our family room and 2 bedrooms.  So we had a lot of filling up to do.

Here is the table we bought that was custom made and dining chairs we bought from Slumberland.

I was trying out the dining room this way to see if I liked the use of space.  Hmm...not so sure.  Will keep you posted ; )

Have a great weekend all.
