Can It Be : Wood Stove

Hello, everyone!
I am finally going to share about one of my favorite things in my home..the wood stove  : )
If you remember I wrote about how my husband surprised me with this.

We had it sit in our garage for awhile until we got closer to the fall and I was just itching with anticipation to get it in the space.

Our good friend, Curt, came and helped us again.  They had a slightly difficult time getting everything in line.

I am going to let the pics tell the story here : )

 And now the finished product
TA DA

We put the fire on as soon as the project was finished.  So very happy (big cheesy grin on my face)!
If you have any questions about the details of this project we would love to answer you.

I am going to do a video on the family room so you can see what we have done and what still needs to be done.  It's our renovation journey.

BTW..check out one of my favorite designers, Angelo Surmelis behind the scenes of his furniture line.

Design = Passionate People

Not too long ago I got connected via the blog with a wonderful person who is passionate about what they love and went after it full force.

Her name is Dana..

and she has a love for everything vintage!  My kind of girl : )  She has inspired me because I am a mother of 3.. a stay at home mom who homeschools and have a husband who is very busy with his work and have aspirations of my own.  Dana is a stay at home mom who pursued after her dream and is doing it!  I am more motivated today because she took that step.

So, I have decided to start a series here on Modern Earth Design about passionate people.  Design isn't only about beautiful things but it's also on creating the life we desire and being fulfilled in doing so.

Thank you, Dana.

Season Change

The season is changing!  I can say that because we have been so cold here in the midwest with all the snow and it is finally starting to melt away. Having 40 degree weather is a heat wave..lol.

One of the things we can do to celebrate spring is to bring in plants.  I got so tired of just seeing white outside that I bought some succulents.  That works best for me since I don't have a green thumb. Ok, let's say I have more like a death thumb when it comes to greenery!

Isn't that beautiful?  Gorgeous and unique.

Using this as an inspiration..why not put them in wine glasses.

Here's something else I'm loving - Terrariums!

Air plants...

Welcome spring!  Welcome life!

Can It Be: Family Room Part 3

Several weeks ago I wrote about the slate floor we added in hopes for a woodburning stove.

Came out so good!
I knew at the time we didn't have the finances to plop down on one like this.. (look at the price tag)

So.. I was just hoping and praying.

My husband comes home and says I have a surprise for you in the car.  Hmmm.. I was so curious and ran outside.  Look what I found in the trunk!

I was like how?  Was there some trick up his sleeve?!
The story goes like this.  He knew I wanted one so bad and kept looking around and comparing prices. He ended up going on Craigslist and found a company in town that was having a going out of business sale.  This was the only one left.  We got it for..are you ready...drum roll please...$350.  Yes!  A Napoleon brand spanking new stove!  God really does answer prayer and cares that I don't like to be cold : )

I have a great husband who didn't stop looking for me and wanted me to be happy.  Boy am I lucky ; )

I will write more later on the installation.

Check out Napoleon fireplaces for yourself.  Love mine.

Ode To The Blizzard

Ode to a Blizzard

by Tom Disch

O! wonderful for weight and whiteness!
       Ideology whose absolutes
               Are always proven right
                      By white and then
               More white and white again,
       Winning the same argument year
After year by making the opposition
                            Disappear!

As you all know we have been under the biggest blizzard probably ever recorded.  We received 13.9 in here and boy do we have cleanup to do.

With all this white snow made me think about white rooms..crisp and bright.

This is beautiful!  It's with the calming color of pink..you will see pink in decor everywhere.

Love this..makes me think of spring with the green carpet.

Well, with all this white around I hope all of you stay warm and safe.
